Sue Gray Pay Raise Controversy: Starmer Affirms Control Amid Leaks

Date:

United Kingdom Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has firmly stated that he is “completely in control” following revelations that his Chief of Staff, Sue Gray, received a salary increase, now surpassing his own. This statement came in response to BBC reports highlighting internal government tensions regarding staff pay.

The BBC’s report, based on insider sources, shed light on strained relationships within the administration, less than three months after Labour’s significant general election win.

During an interview with BBC South East’s political editor, Charlotte Wright, Starmer emphasized his commitment to governance, saying, “We were elected with a big mandate to deliver change, and I’m determined to do that.”

Additionally, Starmer addressed questions regarding his acceptance of corporate hospitality from Arsenal Football Club. As Prime Minister, he is unable to use his personal season ticket, opting instead for two seats in the corporate area of Emirates Stadium. He defended this decision, citing higher security costs for using regular seating.

Starmer assured the public that while he would “rather be in the stands,” this arrangement was a “perfectly sensible” compromise.

The controversy has sparked discussions about government transparency and leadership dynamics, but Starmer remains focused on fulfilling his party’s promises to the electorate.
