Nigerian superstar DJ Cuppy, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has become the first British Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This monumental achievement took place during the “Summit of the Future – Youth Actions Day” event, where Cuppy showcased her influence and charisma, unifying the assembly with a chant and bringing a fresh, youthful energy to the proceedings.
In her keynote address, DJ Cuppy emphasized the importance of youth taking action and leadership that brings everyone to the table. She highlighted her favorite Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), “Opportunity for Everyone to Get Quality Education,” and shared her foundation’s efforts in providing funds for African students. Cuppy’s powerful musical performance left a lasting impression, and her hint at future ambitions, possibly becoming Nigeria’s first female president, sparked excitement and inspired the next generation of leaders.
The UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, responded to Cuppy’s comment with wit and charm, saying, “You told me you wanted to be Nigeria’s first female president, and what did I say? After me.” This lighthearted exchange symbolized the growing momentum behind women’s leadership in Nigeria and globally.
Beyond her achievements in music and philanthropy, DJ Cuppy is also an accomplished academic. She holds degrees from King’s College London, New York University, and the University of Oxford, and is currently pursuing her fourth master’s degree at the London School of Economics.
