President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved over ₦10 billion as a take-off grant for the newly upgraded Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) in Plateau State. This follows the institution’s transition from its former status as the Federal College of Education, Pankshin.
Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, the member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, shared this development during the official unveiling of the university by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Gagdi, who sponsored the bill for the college’s upgrade, expressed his satisfaction, noting that the bill was assented to by former President Muhammadu Buhari but delayed under the Ministry of Education.
Gagdi highlighted that President Tinubu responded to his appeal, approving the ₦10 billion take-off grant and directing its immediate release through Tetfund. Additionally, the Federal Government has sanctioned the recruitment of over 161 staff members to fill key positions at the university.
This milestone signals a significant advancement for the education sector in Plateau State, with Gagdi remarking, “I am exonerated today,” in reference to previous criticism over the delay in the institution’s upgrade. The grant and staff appointments are expected to ensure the smooth operation of the university.
