Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is set to earn more than double Daniel Dubois’ pay for their IBF heavyweight title fight at Wembley, despite suffering a fifth-round knockout.
According to Sporty Salaries via GB News, Joshua was guaranteed £6 million just for participating, with potential earnings rising to £25 million through pay-per-view. In contrast, Dubois, who delivered the upset, secured a guaranteed £3.5 million, which could increase to £10 million.
Joshua’s higher earnings are attributed to the star power he brought to the event, even after enduring his fourth career defeat. The 34-year-old boxer has vowed to continue his career, brushing off calls for retirement.
In an Instagram video, Joshua reflected on his career, stating, “We came up short, but we’ve got to focus on the positives. Look at what we’ve achieved in 11 years; the journey is far from over.”
Dubois’ victory has shaken up the heavyweight division, setting the stage for potential future bouts with Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk. A rematch with Joshua is also on the table. The fight drew a record-breaking crowd of over 98,000, marking a historic night for British boxing.
