The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara of engaging in anti-party activities. Wike claims that Fubara actively supported the Action Peoples Party (APP) in securing the chairmanship seat during the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers State.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Wike addressed the allegations of his own involvement in anti-party activities, categorically denying any wrongdoing. “Today, people say discipline Wike because he did anti-party, but I say that I did not do anti-party,” the FCT Minister declared.
Wike further elaborated on his stance, alleging that Governor Fubara backed the APP in the election and highlighting that Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed attended the swearing-in ceremony of the APP chairmen. “The governor sponsored APP, and Bala Mohammed was the one who attended the swearing-in of the APP chairmen,” Wike remarked.
The former Rivers State governor underscored his commitment to justice, adding, “I said I wouldn’t support injustice, and I have no apology to render to anybody because PDP had agreed on what to do, but he [Fubara] refused.”
These accusations come amidst ongoing political tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with Wike asserting his position as a defender of party discipline and justice. The Minister’s comments have reignited conversations about internal party politics, particularly in Rivers State, where the PDP has historically held a strong foothold.
Governor Sim Fubara is yet to respond to the allegations, but the claims could have significant implications for political alignments in the state as the PDP looks to maintain its influence ahead of upcoming elections.
