The Recording Academy has announced the nominees for the 67th Grammy Awards, with the Best African Music Performance category being entirely dominated by Nigerian artists.
The only non-Nigerian artist in the category, American singer Chris Brown, made the list with a song featuring Nigerian stars Davido and Lojay.
The nominations were revealed by the organizers on Friday, November 8. The contenders for the Best African Music Performance category include Yemi Alade’s ‘Tomorrow,’ Asake’s ‘MMS’ featuring Wizkid, Chris Brown’s ‘Sensational’ featuring Davido and Lojay, Burna Boy’s ‘Higher,’ and Tems’ ‘Love Me JeJe.’
South African singer Tyla won the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 66th Grammys with her song ‘Water.’
In addition, Nigerian singers Rema and Tems have been nominated in the Best Global Music Album category. Tems’ debut album ‘Born In The Wild’ and Rema’s sophomore album ‘HEIS’ will compete against Matt B and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s ‘Alkebulan II,’ Ciro Hurtado’s ‘Paisajes,’ and Antonio Rey’s ‘Historias De Un Flamenco.’
