President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany is set to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday for a two-day state visit, as announced by the German Embassy on Monday.
During his visit, President Steinmeier will meet with Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Alieu Omar Touray. Following these meetings, Steinmeier will travel to Lagos, where he will engage with business representatives, visit a start-up hub, and meet with prominent figures in Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, including Dr. Nike Okundaye and Prof. Wole Soyinka.
While in Lagos, President Steinmeier will tour the city to gain insights into the urban development of this megacity, addressing both environmental and social challenges.
Accompanying President Steinmeier will be a business delegation comprising CEOs and high-ranking board members from some of Germany’s most successful companies in the fields of IT, high-tech, and energy. This delegation underscores the growing interest of German businesses in investment opportunities in Nigeria.
“This visit sends a strong signal: Nigeria is an important political, economic, and cultural partner of Germany in Africa,” the statement concluded.
