Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior has been honored with the 2024 FIFA The Best Award. The Brazilian forward was announced as the winner at an event in Doha on Tuesday night.
The award is determined by a mix of votes from four equally weighted jury groups: current coaches and captains from each team, one special journalist from each territory, and fans.
Aitana Bonmatí was chosen as the best female player for the second consecutive year.
Vinicius’s victory comes after a disappointing loss in the Ballon d’Or, the world’s most prestigious football award. This time, he was present to accept the award, alongside Carlo Ancelotti, who was named Best Coach.
The entire Real Madrid squad is currently in Qatar, preparing to play against Pachuca in the Intercontinental Cup, and the FIFA awards were also presented in Qatar.
Vinicius Jr received the most votes, totaling 48 points, ahead of ten other nominees. Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, from Manchester City and Spain, received 43 points, while Jude Bellingham from Real Madrid and England came in third with 37 points.
