Donald Trump, the newly sworn-in 47th President of the United States, has pledged to implement security and economic reforms as he returns to the White House.
Inaugurated at Capitol Hill on Monday, Trump’s inaugural address touched on themes of divine intervention, national greatness, liberation, and enhanced security. He vowed to restore the US to its status as the “greatest” nation on earth.
Expressing gratitude to the black and Hispanic communities for their “tremendous outpouring of love and trust,” Trump said, “I heard your voices in the campaign and I look forward to working with you.”
He highlighted the significance of January 20th, which coincides with Martin Luther King Day, as a day of liberation, hoping the recent election would be remembered as the most consequential in US history.
Trump assured that his administration would tackle every crisis with “dignity, power, and strength,” aiming to bring prosperity to citizens of all races, religions, colors, and creeds. He announced executive orders to designate cartels as foreign terrorist organizations and, by invoking the “Aliens Enemies Act of 1798,” promised to use the full power of federal and state law enforcement to eliminate “foreign gangs on US soil.”
Vowing to build the “strongest military the world has ever seen,” Trump emphasized that success would be measured not only by battles won but also by wars ended and avoided. He expressed his desire to be a “peacemaker and a unifier,” asserting that America would reclaim its place as the most powerful and respected nation on earth and revive its manufacturing sector. He also stressed the importance of utilizing the country’s abundant oil and natural gas resources, rallying the crowd with the phrase, “Drill baby drill.”
Addressing the LGBTQ community, Trump declared that the official policy of the US government would recognize only two genders, male and female. He stated that this move would end the government’s efforts to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life, aiming to create a society that is color-blind and merit-based.
