Donald Trump, newly inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, has pledged to usher in a new era of American greatness.
Sworn in for a second term, Trump’s return to the White House marks an extraordinary political comeback, overcoming two assassination attempts, a felony conviction, and an indictment for attempting to overturn his 2020 election loss. “The golden age of America begins right now,” he declared.
At 12:01 p.m. ET (17:01 GMT) inside the U.S. Capitol, Trump took the oath of office to preserve, protect, and defend the U.S. Constitution, administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. His vice president, JD Vance, was sworn in just before him.
In his inaugural address, Trump announced his intention to sign a series of executive actions in his first hours in office.
