A United States Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines jet collided midair on Wednesday evening at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia.
According to CNN, American Airlines Flight 5342, which had 60 passengers and 4 crew members on board, had departed from Wichita, Kansas.
The Metropolitan Police Department reported that there are no confirmed casualties at this time. “DC Fire and EMS, the Metropolitan Police Department, and multiple partner agencies are currently coordinating a search and rescue operation in the Potomac River,” they said. “There is no confirmed information on casualties at this time.”
A large emergency response is underway in DC’s Potomac River, where the collision occurred.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelley acknowledged the incident, stating, “I am aware that a plane inbound from Wichita was involved in a crash at Reagan National Airport. I am actively in contact with authorities. My thoughts go out to those involved. I will share more information as it becomes available.”
