On Monday, Yuri Ushakov, foreign policy adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that Moscow and Washington have not yet agreed on how to initiate peace talks regarding Ukraine.
He noted that the US has yet to appoint a chief negotiator to engage with Russia.
Ushakov, alongside Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, is scheduled to participate in bilateral talks with US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. This follows a phone conversation last week between Putin and US President Donald Trump, during which they agreed to commence discussions aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine.
The meeting aims to address the restoration of normal relations with the US, the initiation of potential negotiations on Ukraine, and prospects for high-level contacts between Putin and Trump. Ushakov emphasized the need to agree on the terms to begin negotiations, as the American side has not yet appointed a chief negotiator to handle discussions with Russia.
Additionally, Ushakov mentioned that Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, might join the delegation to address any economic issues that may arise.
