Famous Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that he receives special treatment globally due to his celebrity status.
The Afrobeats star mentioned that he gets invited to presidential dinners in almost every country he visits, except for the United States and the United Kingdom.
In a recent interview with Kiss Fresh London, Davido boasted about his influential fanbase, which includes the World Bank president, presidents of powerful nations, and other notable figures. “Every country we go to, the President invites us for dinner except London [United Kingdom] and the United States of America,” he said.
Davido expressed his pride in how well Nigeria is represented worldwide through music and cultural impacts. “It’s beautiful to see. I mean, leaving my country, Nigeria, and people welcoming me like the president in other countries, shows how well Nigeria is doing around the world in terms of music and cultural impacts,” he added.
He also highlighted that he is most respected in Africa, which is why he prefers his African tours over European and American tours, despite making more money in the Western world. Davido shared an anecdote about his Jamaican counterpart, YG Marley, who was amazed by the love Davido’s fans showed him during a recent visit to Nigeria for the video shoot of their collaborative hit ‘Awuke.’
