Fans of French football star Paul Pogba were left disappointed after his highly anticipated return to the pitch was abruptly postponed just four days before the scheduled event.
The 31-year-old midfielder, a former Manchester United player, had been sidelined with a four-year suspension after testing positive for elevated testosterone levels following Juventus’ opening game of the 2023-24 season.
However, Pogba successfully appealed the ban, which was reduced to 18 months, allowing him to resume competitive action in March 2025.
Having parted ways with Juventus, Pogba has been focused on rebuilding his fitness and preparing for a return to professional football. Part of this effort included participating in exhibition matches, starting with the much-publicized King’s Cup clash in Dubai.
The event, set to feature football legends such as John Terry and Paul Scholes, was a chance for Pogba to reintroduce himself to fans.
However, just days before the event, organizers announced the postponement of the exhibition match, citing “unforeseen circumstances.”
The game, originally slated for next week, has now been rescheduled for February 2025. Ticket holders were offered refunds, and organizers promised to announce new dates soon.
In a statement, the King’s Cup team said:
“Dear Football Fans, we regret to inform you that the King’s Cup Dubai has been rescheduled to February 2025 due to unforeseen circumstances. For refunds, please visit the Platinum list website and follow the instructions for your ticket. We will announce the specific dates for the rescheduled event soon, so please stay tuned for updates. Thank you for your understanding and support. – Team King’s Cup.”
The last-minute cancellation sparked a wave of frustration among fans, with many venting their anger on social media. Some ticket holders reported significant inconveniences, including disrupted travel plans and non-refundable expenses.
For Pogba, the delay adds yet another hurdle to his ongoing effort to rebuild his career after a challenging few years. Fans, though disappointed, remain hopeful to see the World Cup winner back in action when the King’s Cup eventually takes place in February.
