Japanese auto giants Honda and Nissan have agreed to initiate talks on a merger, aiming to catch up with Chinese competitors and Tesla in the electric vehicle market.
Along with Mitsubishi Motors, the two firms have signed a memorandum of understanding to discuss and consider a business integration through the creation of a joint holding company, according to a joint statement.
Additionally, Honda and Nissan announced plans to list a new holding company on the prime market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in August 2026. The duo revealed that shares of the newly established joint holding company under consideration are planned for a technical listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by August 2026.
