Wizkid, the Afro beat sensation who has taken the world by storm with his catchy tunes and charismatic persona, is ready for a new challenge: acting. The Nigerian superstar, who has collaborated with the likes of Beyoncé, Drake, and Justin Bieber, recently opened up about his desire to explore the silver screen in an exclusive interview.
“I love movies, man. I love watching them, I love being in them, I love everything about them,” he said. “I think it’s time for me to try something different and show my fans another side of me.”
Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, said he has been inspired by some of his favourite actors, such as Denzel Washington, Will Smith, and Idris Elba. He also expressed his admiration for Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry that produces more than 2,000 movies per year.
“Nollywood is amazing. They have so many talented actors and actresses, and they tell our stories in a beautiful way. I would love to work with some of them and learn from them,” he said.
Wizkid, who has won four MTV Africa Music Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, and two BET Awards, among others, said he is not planning to quit music anytime soon. He said he is working on his fifth studio album, which will feature some of his biggest hits, such as “Essence”, “Ginger”, and “Smile”.
“I’m still passionate about music, and I have a lot of songs to share with the world. Music is my first love, and it will always be,” he said. “But I also want to challenge myself and grow as an artist. Acting is something I’ve always wanted to do, and I think now is the right time to do it.”
