Euro 2024 draw: Scotland face hosts Germany in thrilling opener while England clash with Denmark

Date:

The Euro 2024 draw has thrown up some exciting match-ups, with Scotland set to take on Germany in the first game of the tournament at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Friday, 14 June.

The Scots, who qualified for their first major tournament since 1998, will have to contend with the home crowd and the four-time world champions, who are eager to bounce back from their disappointing exit in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup.

Hungary and Switzerland are the other teams in Group A, which promises to be a tight and competitive affair.

England, who reached the final of Euro 2020 but lost to Italy on penalties, will face Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia in Group C. The Three Lions will kick off their campaign on 16 June against Serbia, who edged out Norway in the play-offs.

England will be wary of Denmark, who beat them 1-0 at Wembley in the Nations League in 2020, and who reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020 with an inspired run after the collapse of their star player Christian Eriksen.

Wales, who reached the last 16 of Euro 2020, will have to overcome France, the Netherlands and Austria in Group D if they qualify via March’s play-offs. The Dragons will face Belarus and either Bulgaria or Hungary in a two-legged tie to secure their spot.

The defending champions Italy, who extended their unbeaten run to 37 games with a 2-0 win over Spain in the Nations League final, will face a tough challenge in Group B, where they will meet Spain again, along with Croatia and Albania.

The Euro 2024 draw has set the stage for a thrilling tournament, with some of the best teams and players in Europe vying for glory. Who will lift the trophy on 7 July at the Olympiastadion in Berlin? Only time will tell.
