Charles Hanson, a popular antique expert on BBC One, is accused of seven offences against his wife
Charles Hanson, 45, a well-known auctioneer and TV personality, has been charged with assault following a domestic row with his wife.
The antique expert, who regularly features on Bargain Hunt, Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip, is due to appear in court next month over the allegations.
According to Derbyshire Police, Hanson was arrested in June after they responded to reports of a domestic incident at an address in Church Road, Quarndon.
He was released on police bail while enquiries continued, and on December 14, he was charged with seven offences, including two of assault causing actual bodily harm, one of controlling and coercive behaviour and two counts of assault by beating.
Hanson, who is also a chartered surveyor, was released on police bail again and is expected to appear at Southern Derbyshire magistrates’ court on 10 January.
From Christie’s to TV fame
Hanson started his career in 1999 in the ceramics and glass department at Christie’s, the prestigious auction house.
He made his TV debut in 2002 at the age of 25, becoming the youngest expert on Bargain Hunt, the BBC One show that challenges teams to make a profit from antiques.
He has since become a regular face on other antique shows, such as Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip, where he showcases his knowledge and enthusiasm for collectibles.
In 2005, he set up his own auctioneering business in Derbyshire, and in 2018, he launched Hansons London, a branch of his firm in the capital.
Married life and separation
Hanson met his wife Rebecca Ludlam, 40, a diagnostic radiographer, in 2008 and they tied the knot two years later at All Saints Church in Mackworth, in front of 150 close friends and family members.
The couple have two children, a son and a daughter, and lived in a six-bedroom home in a small Derbyshire village.
According to The Sun, Hanson is understood to have moved out of the family home after the domestic incident in June.
