Former President Jonathan Mourns the Loss of His Beloved Elder Sister

The former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, is in deep sorrow as he bids farewell to his elder sister, Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, who breathed her last on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

She succumbed to a brief illness at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, at the ripe age of 70.

The sad news was confirmed by Jonathan’s media office  Ikechukwu Eze in a statement released on Thursday.

The statement described the deceased, fondly known as Amissi, as a retired teacher, a successful businesswoman, a loving mother and grandmother who lived a life of devotion to God and compassion to humanity. “She was a faithful Christian, a virtuous woman and an inspiration to many within and beyond her community,” the statement read.

The statement also announced that the burial has been slated for Tuesday, February 16, 2024, adding that the details of the funeral rites would be made public by the family.

Madam Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan.

As the nation mourns with the former president, many have expressed their condolences and tributes to the departed soul.
