West Ham Snap Up Kalvin Phillips on Loan from Man City

Date:

West Ham have struck a deal with Manchester City to bring England midfielder Kalvin Phillips to the London Stadium on loan for the rest of the season.

Phillips, 28, joined City from Leeds in a £45m deal in July 2022 and signed a six-year contract, but he has failed to impress Pep Guardiola and has barely featured this season.

Phillips, who has also caught the eye of Juventus, is expected to have a medical in London this week.

The Hammers (West Ham FC) have agreed to pay Phillips’ wages and have an option to buy him at the end of the season.

Several clubs had shown interest in the player but City’s high loan fee put off teams like Newcastle United.

Phillips, who is still part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad, is flying back to the UK today with the rest of the City squad from a training camp in Abu Dhabi.

The loan signing of Phillips will be a welcome boost for Hammers boss David Moyes, who has been looking to bolster a squad hit by injuries.

Phillips, who has only started two games in the Premier League in 18 months, will hope to use the move as a chance to prove his worth ahead of this summer’s European Championship in Germany.
