Lagos workers rejoice as governor slashes work days to three

Date:

In a bid to ease the economic hardship faced by Lagosians, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a new policy that will allow civil servants from level 1 to 14 to work from home for two days in a week. The governor made this announcement during a live media chat, ‘Sanwo Speaks’, where he outlined various measures to cushion the effects of inflation and food scarcity in the state.

According to the governor, the new work arrangement will take effect from next week and will not affect workers in the teaching sector, who will continue to work for five days a week. However, the government will provide additional transport support for them. The governor also said that his administration will open Sunday Markets in at least 42 identified markets across Lagos State, where residents can buy food items at discounted prices. He added that the 25% reduction on transport services will start this weekend for the State Public Transport system (BRT, Train, Ferry).

The new policy has been greeted with mixed reactions from the public, with some applauding the governor for his initiative and others expressing skepticism about its effectiveness and implementation. Some civil servants have expressed joy over the opportunity to spend more time with their families and pursue other interests, while others have raised concerns over the impact on their productivity and income. Some residents have also questioned the feasibility of the Sunday Markets and the availability of food items at affordable prices.

The governor has assured the public that his administration will monitor the situation and make necessary adjustments as the need arises. He also appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the government and adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols. He said that the state government was working hard to ensure the welfare and security of the people of Lagos.
