UK bans foreign health workers, caregivers from bringing families

Date:

UK government has unveiled a new directive that is set to redefine the landscape of healthcare immigration. The latest edict prohibits international health workers and caregivers from bringing family members into the country under work visas.

The announcement, made public on Monday, is a key component of the government’s strategy to curtail migration numbers. James Cleverly, the Secretary of State for the Home Department, articulated the policy change via the Home Office X formally (Twitter) account, stating,

“From today, care workers entering the UK on Health and Care Worker visas can no longer bring dependants.”

This measure is heralded as the “biggest ever cut in migration,” a bold claim underscored by an informative infographic on the account. It proclaims, “Banned: Overseas care workers from bringing dependants,” and reveals a significant statistic: “120,000 people who arrived last year would no longer be eligible under our new rules.”

The rationale behind this stringent policy is the economic downturn currently challenging the UK—a situation that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is actively striving to ameliorate. The government’s resolve is evident: tightening the reins on immigration is deemed an essential step towards economic stabilization and recovery.
