Renowned actors Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher have declared their decision to divorce after spending twenty years together.
The couple, who share three children, met in 2001 and became engaged in 2004. They jointly filed to dissolve their marriage last year, as revealed in a social media post.
In an Instagram story shared on Friday, they posted a picture of themselves in tennis attire, captioning it: “After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down.”
They further stated in the post: “We have always valued our privacy and have been discreetly navigating this transition. Our enduring love and commitment to our children remain unchanged. We kindly request your respect for our family’s desire for privacy.”
Baron Cohen, who gained popularity in the 1990s with his character Ali G, is also recognized for his portrayals of Kazakh reporter Borat and Austrian fashion enthusiast Bruno.
Fisher, on the other hand, started her career in the long-standing Australian soap opera Home and Away before transitioning to film, with roles in Wedding Crashers and Confessions of a Shopaholic. She has also authored a series of children’s books.
Recently, Baron Cohen and Australian actress Rebel Wilson were embroiled in a controversy preceding the launch of her memoir. The book contains allegations against Baron Cohen, who is believed to have threatened legal action in response.
Wilson claimed that she was asked to perform actions that were “derogatory to women or to my size”, and certain scenes made her feel “humiliated” and “sexually harassed”. She compared the comedian to a “fourth-grade bully who teases the fat girl on the playground and tries to make her life a living hell”.
Baron Cohen has categorically denied any wrongdoing, asserting that Wilson’s depiction of filming his 2016 movie Grimsby was “demonstrably false”.
The memoir, originally scheduled for release in the UK on Thursday, has had its release date postponed to 25 April. It has already been published in the US.
