Bobrisky sentenced to 6 months in jail for abuse of Naira notes

Date:

Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, has been sentenced to six months in jail with no option of a fine. The Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Abimbola Awogboro, delivered this judgment on the morning of April 12, 2024.

The arrest of Bobrisky occurred after a video emerged showing him spraying new Naira notesat the premiere of Eniola Ajao’s movie titled ‘Ajakaju’ on March 24, 2024. In the video, Bobrisky threw the banknotes in the air as a sign of appreciation, a practice commonly done at Nigerian weddings and celebrations. This led to his subsequent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 3, 2024.

Despite the dismissal of money laundering charges, Bobrisky was convicted for abuse of the Naira notes after confessing to the crime. His sentencing serves as a notable development in the ongoing legal proceedings
