The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action against counterfeit products by sealing the well-known Pinnacle Supermarket in the Dugbe area of Ibadan.
The supermarket, which is usually bustling with activity, now stands eerily quiet. Its entrance is locked, and a notice directs customers to visit its other location in Challenge.
The problem began on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, when the NAFDAC surveillance team stormed the mall, enforcing a total shutdown of the premises and forcing shoppers out. The supermarket management cited technical issues as the reason for the closure, but an inside source revealed that the issue escalated due to the sale of fake products.
The NAFDAC team had been on Pinnacle’s trail, and despite multiple invitations, the CEO failed to comply with their requests. The agency’s decision to close the supermarket underscores that nobody is above the law when it comes to ensuring product safety and authenticity
