Simi Speaks Out on the Music Industry’s Female Rivalries

Date:

Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, a renowned Nigerian singer, has shed light on the strained relationships among female artists, attributing it to the constant competition they are subjected to.

In a recent conversation with Angela Yee, the singer behind ‘Men Are Crazy’ confessed that the tendency of fans to compare female artists adds tension to their interactions.

Simi expressed, “The music industry is rife with fans instigating rivalries among female artists. The intensity can be overwhelming at times. It’s particularly distracting considering our limited numbers in the industry compared to male artists. Whenever a new female artist emerges, fans are quick to draw comparisons, setting her up against us.”

She continued, “There’s room for all of us to succeed. I’ve addressed women’s issues numerous times in my songs. However, being an artist, people often assume that my advocacy for women is only valid when I collaborate with other female artists in my songs. It’s an odd presumption, considering that women are present in all aspects of life.”

Simi concluded, “The frequent comparisons do create a sense of rivalry among us, which I believe sometimes affects the relationships we could have had under different circumstances.”
