Music artist, Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name, Portable, spent a night in a police cell due to his inability to fulfill the stipulated bail conditions for his release.
The singer, famous for his hit song ‘Zazzu’, was apprehended on Tuesday. This arrest was a result of his alleged failure to settle a debt he owed after buying a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 from a local car dealer, Ogunsanwo Temitope, also known as Temmy Autos. It was reported that Portable had only paid N13 million of the N27 million total cost of the vehicle, leaving an outstanding balance of N14 million.
The Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, reportedly confirmed that Portable had spent the night in their cell and remained in police custody. “He has yet to present a credible surety, so he (Portable) is still with us,” Hundeyin was quoted as saying in a newspaper on Wednesday.
Portable attempted to avoid arrest by scaling a fence gate, but a vigilant police officer managed to catch up with him and restrain him. He was subsequently overpowered by the four officers who had been dispatched to arrest him, and was escorted into their vehicle. Footage of the incident quickly spread across the internet on Tuesday.
