Singer Adekunle Gold has expressed his admiration for the iconic musician, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, as his groundbreaking solo album, ‘Face2Face’, marks its 20th anniversary.

Gold regards the album as the “undeniable foundation of Afrobeats.”

He acknowledged that the creator of the hit song ‘African Queen’, 2Baba’s enduring artistry and influence continue to motivate successive generations of musicians. Sharing the album cover on his social media handle, Adekunle Gold penned: “Blessings to you, @official2baba! Two decades ago, you released a project that has undeniably become the cornerstone of Afrobeats.

“Your enduring artistry and influence persist in inspiring generations of musicians and music lovers alike.”

2Baba, formerly known as 2Face, launched his debut solo album, ‘Face2Face’, on May 15, 2003, following his departure from the boy band, Plantashun Boiz.

The album, released under Kennis Music, featured the lead single ‘Nfana Ibaga’ and the timeless classic ‘African Queen,’ both of which significantly influenced the Nigerian and African music scene.

Music enthusiasts consider ‘Face2Face’ as the standard for debut albums in the Afrobeats genre.
