Burna Boy Declares Himself Godfather of Nigerian Music Industry

Date:

Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning singer, has once again ignited a debate about who holds the title of the biggest artist in Nigeria.

In the opening verse of the remix for the viral South African song “Tshwala Bam” by TitoM and Yuppe, Burna Boy boldly declared himself the godfather of the Nigerian music industry:

As long as Naija la wa…Them they call me the Godfather.”

His claim comes after he previously referred to himself as the “blueprint” of the Nigerian music industry following his Grammy win. Interestingly, his colleague Davido has also asserted himself as the godfather of Afrobeats on a track titled “Godfather” from his fourth studio album, “Timeless”.
