Renowned Afrobeat artist Davido received advice from Senate President Godswill Akpabio to resist any attempts to draw him into the political arena.
The senator issued this warning during Davido’s courtesy visit to Abuja on Monday. Akpabio expressed his gratitude to Davido for his contributions to the nation and his delight at meeting the musician.
Akpabio stated, “In my view, and in the view of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, we are an inclusive government. You must have noticed in my various public appearances that we move as a unit, regardless of party affiliations. Even though your administration is PDP, our common interest is this country, a country that has shown you immense love.”
“With a population unmatched anywhere else in Africa, over 240 million Nigerians, I urge you to continue being a commendable ambassador of our country. Continue to excel in the entertainment industry and resist any attempts to pull you into politics.”
“In the political sphere, we value talent. We will do everything in our power to support the entertainment industry and talented individuals like you. All we ask for is patience and prayers for our success.”
Following this, Davido spoke about the purpose of his visit to the senator. He said, “As for me, I’m doing my part to help society. I have a Foundation where I donate N300 to N400 million to orphanages every year. And I have a new album set to release in June or July of this year. I just want to express my gratitude for everything you have done for us.”
Davido was accompanied by two of his cousins: Folasade Adeleke, the daughter of the governor of Osun State, and Tunji Adeleke, the son of his late uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke.
