Rishi Sunak Declines to Confirm Rwanda Flights Before Election

Date:

The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has declined to assure whether any flights to Rwanda will be operational before the general elections scheduled for July 4th.

During his appearance on Nick Ferrari’s breakfast show on LBC this morning, Mr. Sunak stated that the inaugural flights are set for ‘July’, yet he refrained from specifying an exact date. He further mentioned that the future of the Rwanda policy hinges on the election results.

The Prime Minister expressed, “I’ve stated that the initial flights will commence in July. If I secure the election, we’ll ensure the flights are operational. The decision will be clear post-election.”

When probed further about the timeline, he reiterated, “No, after the election.”

In response to his remarks, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, suggested that his statements indicate the Rwanda plan is a ‘sham’.

Mr. Sunak countered by stating that “15 other European nations concur with me” regarding the implementation of a deterrent similar to Rwanda’s.
