Alan Hansen, the 68-year-old former centre-back for Liverpool and Scotland, is reportedly in a serious health condition.
The news was confirmed by his former club, Liverpool, who revealed that their esteemed ex-captain is currently hospitalised.
Liverpool FC expressed their solidarity with Hansen, stating, “Our legendary former captain, Alan Hansen, is seriously ill and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The entire Liverpool FC family extends its thoughts and support to him during this challenging time.”
Hansen’s illustrious career began with a promotion to the Scottish Premier Division with Partick Thistle, after which he joined Liverpool in 1977.
This marked the beginning of a triumphant 14-year stint with the club. He played a pivotal role in the formidable Liverpool teams of the 70s and 80s, contributing to their victories in eight First Division titles, three European Cups, and two FA Cups.
Liverpool FC also mentioned that they are in touch with Hansen’s family to offer their support during this difficult period. They extended their thoughts, wishes, and hopes to Hansen and his entire family.
In addition to his achievements with Liverpool, which include four League Cup wins, Hansen also represented Scotland 26 times and was part of the 1982 World Cup team.
John Aldridge, Hansen’s former teammate and the chairman of the Forever Reds association, expressed his concern, saying, “As former LFC players, our thoughts are with Alan Hansen and his family. We hope he can overcome his illness. YNWA.”
After retiring from professional football in 1991, Hansen transitioned into a successful career as a pundit on Match of the Day, a role he held from 1992 until 2014.
