The Labour Party (LP) has openly criticized Kenneth Okonkwo, following his resignation from the party. The LP accused Okonkwo of being a mole, suggesting that his departure was anticipated. This follows Okonkwo’s harsh comments on Sunday, where he expressed a lack of confidence in the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and questioned Obi’s ability to lead a victorious campaign.
The National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, issued a statement addressing the issue. Ifoh described Okonkwo’s resignation and his subsequent critique of Obi as both unsurprising and a ploy for attention. “Kenneth Okonkwo’s resignation from the Labour Party didn’t come to us as a surprise. We also think that his attack on the party’s leader, Peter Obi, is rather unfortunate,” Ifoh stated.
Ifoh further emphasized that the party would not be drawn into a war of words with Okonkwo, whom he described as having an “attention-craving attitude.” “We will continue not to dignify him with any response, as we understand that his attention-craving attitude knows no bounds,” Ifoh added.
Despite the controversy, the LP reaffirmed its unwavering support for Peter Obi as their candidate for the 2027 presidential elections. The party remains steadfast in its mission and focus, undeterred by Okonkwo’s departure and criticism.
