Gospel Singer Aduke Gold Passes Away: A Deep Loss for the Nigerian Gospel Community

Date:

The Nigerian gospel music scene has been struck by a profound loss as renowned singer Ajayi Aduke Morounkola, popularly known as Aduke Gold, has passed away. The sad news was confirmed by her close friend and fellow gospel singer, Esther Igbekele, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 13. Igbekele shared her grief on her verified Facebook page, posting, “A GENERAL HAS FALLEN. ADUKE GOLD ️️️#rip,” indicating the deep sorrow felt by many who knew and loved Aduke Gold.

Aduke Gold, born Aduke Ajayi in Ilesha, was not just a gospel singer; she was a beacon of hope for many who knew her story. Orphaned at the tender age of four, she faced numerous hardships early in life. Despite these challenges, Aduke Gold’s determination to succeed never wavered. She often shared her experiences of hawking goods as a young child, a reality that many in Nigeria can relate to.

Her life was further complicated by a battle with vertigo, a condition that led to frequent fainting spells. Despite this, she remained undeterred, pursuing her passion for music with unwavering commitment.

Aduke Gold’s academic achievements were as impressive as her musical talents. She earned a degree in History and International Relations from Lagos State University, thanks to a scholarship from Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele. Her thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there; she went on to earn a higher degree in Child Psychology, alongside several diplomas in Montessori education, special education, and music.

Unlike many artists who gain recognition through recorded albums, Aduke Gold was celebrated for her live performances. Her soulful voice and commanding stage presence captivated audiences, especially during her remarkable performance at the first remembrance of the late gospel artist Baba Ara, a moment that marked her rise to prominence in the gospel music industry.

Growing up in the Ogba and Badagry areas of Lagos, Aduke Gold came from a polygamous family, being the 11th child of her late parents. Her upbringing, marked by struggles and perseverance, was reflected in her music—a blend of soulful worship and inspiring testimonies that resonated deeply with her audience.

The news of her death comes as a double blow to the Nigerian gospel community, following the recent loss of another gospel artist, Egbin Orun. While the cause of her death remains unclear at this time, the impact of her passing is already being felt across the nation.

Aduke Gold’s story is one of resilience, faith, and the transformative power of music. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of gospel artists and music lovers alike. As the gospel community mourns the loss of a truly remarkable talent, her life serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, one can rise and shine brightly.

The Nigerian music scene will deeply miss Aduke Gold, but her spirit will live on through her music and the countless lives she touched during her time on earth.
