Public Outcry Over Seyi Tinubu’s Presence At Acting Chief Justice Swearing-In Ceremony

Date:

Nigerians have voiced their concerns following the appearance of Seyi Tinubu, the first son of President Bola Tinubu, at the swearing-in ceremony of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. The ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja on Friday, where Justice Kekere-Ekun officially took the oath of office and signed the oath register at 11:40 am. She now holds the position of the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria, pending Senate confirmation.

Justice Kekere-Ekun succeeded Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who retired on Thursday after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70. Ariwoola had served as CJN since June 27, 2022.

However, the presence of Seyi Tinubu at this high-profile event has sparked a wave of criticism on social media. A photograph of the president’s son at the ceremony went viral on Monday, prompting many to question his role and why he was present at an event typically reserved for cabinet members and top government officials.

The backlash highlights growing concerns about the perceived influence of President Tinubu’s family members in government affairs, with many Nigerians calling for a clearer distinction between family and state matters. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how the presidency will address these concerns and reassure the public about the transparency and integrity of its operations.
