The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 21 candidates with fake Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) results were recommended for 2023 admissions by various institutions. The Board discovered this during its verification process and noted that 12 of the candidates were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
This revelation comes after JAMB unveiled the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform in 2021 to tackle the issue of fake IJMB and JUPEB results. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had earlier exposed irregularities and faking of results in the JUPEB Board IJMB examination.
JAMB has taken proactive measures to address this issue, including the verification platform, to ensure the integrity of the examination process. The Board stated that it is committed to preventing unscrupulous individuals from undermining the gains made in the education sector.
The 21 candidates with fake results were not approved for admission, and JAMB has warned institutions against recommending candidates with unverified results. The Board’s efforts aim to maintain the credibility of the examination process and ensure that only qualified candidates are admitted into tertiary institutions.
