In a recent interview, investigative journalist David Hundeyin addressed the Nigeria Police Force’s declaration naming him as an accomplice in the ongoing trial of whistleblower Isaac Tamunobifiri, also known as PIDOM. Hundeyin suggests that his inclusion in the investigation is a deliberate effort to discredit him, undermine his international refugee status, and potentially place him on an Interpol notice list.
Hundeyin revealed that in 2023, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) made several attempts to abduct him while he was overseas. He noted that these attempts occurred in Ghana and Kenya before he sought refuge in the United Kingdom. Hundeyin emphasized that these actions were a consequence of his commitment to exposing the truth, a stance that has made him a target of a regime that views truth-telling as a threat.
Regarding his alleged involvement in PIDOM’s trial, Hundeyin stated that he anticipated such a move. He explained that various suspicious activities, including attempts to hack his devices, indicated that he was being set up for a criminal investigation designed to tarnish his reputation and stifle journalistic efforts against governmental misconduct.
Hundeyin also expressed concern about PIDOM’s current condition, alleging that the whistleblower was sprayed with a toxic substance while in custody, leading to severe respiratory issues. This case continues to unfold as a stark reminder of the risks faced by journalists and whistleblowers challenging powerful institutions.
