Controversy Surrounds Yahaya Bello’s Visit to EFCC Headquarters

Date:

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has sparked controversy with his visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja. While his media team claims the visit was to honour an invitation, the EFCC has refuted this, maintaining that Bello remains a wanted person.

According to Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, the ex-governor arrived at the EFCC after consultations with his legal and political advisors. Michael emphasized that Bello, who faces allegations of money laundering totalling over N80 billion, is committed to clearing his name.

However, EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, contradicted these claims, stating that Bello was not in custody and remains wanted. The anti-graft agency has accused Bello of evading arrest after multiple failed attempts.

Despite this, Michael asserted that Bello’s visit occurred, adding that EFCC officials did not interrogate him, leaving uncertainty about his legal standing. Bello’s legal team continues to represent him in ongoing court proceedings.

The case highlights the tension between the ex-governor’s stance on the rule of law and the EFCC’s pursuit of justice. As the situation unfolds, both sides await further developments.
