Singer CKay: Colleagues who once laughed at me are now copying my sound

Date:

Singer CKay has recently made headlines by addressing the criticisms he faced when introducing his unique take on Afrobeats. Known for his breakout hit “Love Nwantiti,” CKay is asserting his influence in the genre, claiming that many of his contemporaries once mocked him but are now emulating his style.

In a series of posts on X, CKay stated,

“history can’t be rewritten just because some people got paid to rewrite it…i’ll always be here to remind you.

CKay emphasized his role as a pioneer, particularly in the creation of what he terms “emo-afrobeat.”

“Ckay IS the first. i pioneered many vibes afrobeat artists thrive off today…iykyk. y’all laughed when i came up with emo afrobeat and was on tiktok all day but many are now doing the same thing, calling it ridiculous names (& making $$). you’re welcome sha”

Additionally, he asserted the authenticity of his work, declaring that

“Every ckay song out there was written by ckay. i also produced/co-produced a good number (except dtf written by talksiick). any artist or producer who claims they wrote my song is a LIAR.“
