Edo Poll: Police Arrest Two Political Thugs, Recover Firearms Ahead of Election

Date:

In a major crackdown on electoral violence, the Nigeria Police Force arrested two political thugs during an overnight raid across Edo State ahead of the governorship election. The suspects, identified as Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, were apprehended in separate locations on the eve of the polls.

According to a press statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to prevent election-related violence. The police recovered three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols from Obanor and one locally made gun from Tajudeen.

Adejobi explained that the operation followed a tip-off regarding armed individuals planning to disrupt the election. Obanor, a leader of an armed group, was arrested in Oredo Ward 4, while Tajudeen, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, was taken into custody in Igara Akoko.

“These arrests highlight the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process in Edo State. We will not tolerate any form of violence or disorderliness during the election,” Adejobi emphasized.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will face legal action. The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities, assuring citizens of their dedication to maintaining law and order throughout the election.
