Former Nigerian soldier, Private Ruth Ogunleye, has called on the Nigerian Army to release the results of its investigation into her allegations of sexual harassment. Ogunleye, who was discharged from service in June 2024, had accused senior officers, including Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem, of sexual harassment and other abuses. She shared her story on TikTok, where she detailed how Abdulkareem allegedly attempted to assault her, forcibly medicated her, and confined her to a psychiatric hospital.
In response, the Army conducted an investigation, which concluded that Abdulkareem was not guilty of the accusations. Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army’s spokesperson, revealed that medical reports indicated Ogunleye was dealing with a medical condition.
Ogunleye, however, remains unsatisfied, expressing her gratitude for her discharge but insisting the investigation’s outcome should be made public. She also urged the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy, to speak out, accusing her of facilitating her resignation but later tying it to a mental health issue.
Ogunleye continues to seek transparency from the Army regarding the reasons behind her discharge.
