Leicester Triumph at Spurs, Increasing Pressure on Postecoglou

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur endured their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat as Leicester City staged a remarkable comeback to climb out of the relegation zone.

The Foxes, trailing 1-0 at half-time, scored twice in four minutes after the breakthrough Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss, ending a run of seven consecutive Premier League defeats.

Brazilian striker Richarlison had opened the scoring for Spurs just after the half-hour mark, heading in a brilliant cross from defender Pedro Porro. However, Leicester captain Vardy equalized from close range a minute into the second half when goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky failed to deal with Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s cross.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side took the lead four minutes later when midfielder El Khannouss curled in a fantastic effort from 25 yards into the bottom corner. Spurs pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but their efforts were in vain. Ange Postecoglou’s side has now won just one of their past 11 Premier League matches, leaving them in 15th place.

Leicester’s victory lifts the Foxes into 17th, one point above Wolves, who drop into the bottom three as a result.
